When the Imperial dreadnaught The Ghost of the Jedi came to destroy the rebel base Yarvin, Ming and the rebel party launched a desperate mission to sabotage the ship. They were successful, but in the process, an accident with the internal system occurred and Ming was almost killed. Her physical body was slain, charred by the lightning of the system. One of her colleagues (a young x wing pilot), whom was secretly in love with her was devastated and had her body frozen in a laboratory to keep what was left of her alive. The idea was that he (Ryan Whitestar) would come back one day, revive her and save her and take her to his home planet to fight the cause from there. But as the years went by Callista lay forgotten and Ryan is still missing in action.

Many years later, Luke Skywalker and several other Jedi were brought onto the ship as it resumed its mission. Ming, was revived by Luke Skywalker, they begin to communicate and to fall in love. She later regained her physical body and healed well due to the Jedi skills of one of the new jedi apprentices. However, in the process of the accident that occurred five years ago, Ming lost her ability to touch the Force.

She remained there for five years, until Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and several other new Jedi were captured by the Ghost of the Jedi's automatic systems and taken aboard. Other crew taken by the ship included Sand People, Jawas, and Gamorreans, which created a large number of problems for the Jedi. One of the Jawas gives Ming's lightsaber to Skywalker during his initial investigations into the ship. Ming was first revealed to Skywalker while he is on the run. While he is inside the frozen laboratory. He comes across Ming still in the frozen incubator. He sets the controls to revive her and after he resolves to destroy the ships weapon, she aids him as much as she can against the ship's controlling central computer.

A Jedi under Djinn Altis, Ming believed, like her Master, that there was nothing wrong with attachment and relationships. Luke Skywalker finds her sincere and sensible. Ming also felt that she needed to be more tolerant than the mainstream Jedi Order and refused to argue.
Ming has a wry sense of humor and an easy-going nature. Even in seemingly hopeless circumstances, she could make jokes and do impressions of others. She is pragmatic, determined, headstrong, and impulsive, deciding on a plan and carrying it out with little need or desire for consultation. She is also very dedicated to the Jedi way—albeit the unorthodox brand practiced by Djinn Altis—and was willing to sacrifice her life to save others of the Order, which she did on the Ghost of the Jedi.

Ming, owing to her upbringing on Chad, had an affinity for water and watery places. She is a follower of the orthodox Jedi beliefs in the light and dark sides of the Force, and once she realizes that she could only touch the dark side of the Force, she decides that she would rather never use the Force again than use the dark side. Showing an independent streak, she leaves Skywalker forever in her own search to regain her connection to the Force, as she realizes that she does not want to drag him down or have his power smother her efforts to regain her abilities. Undaunted by the trials she faced in the old days, Ming remains true to the Jedi way, despite a lack of connection to the Force.
Ming is skilled in the use of a lightsaber and is able to wield the Jedi weapon in combat even without the aid of the Force. She also is capable of using mind influence to help ease injuried soldiers.
